Dear Friends,
As I reported below in July, the Latino Heritage Scholars, an initiative of the Hispanic Access Foundation (a group with international reach), listed Duranguito as one of seven sites that deserve protection because of their cultural and historical significance to the Latino community in the United States.
The announcement sparked media reports across the country and world. Next up will be Lester Holt of NBC Nightly News, in October.
On Friday, the group published a lengthy guest column in the El Paso Times in defense of Duranguito and other American sites closely associated with Latino history.
Meanwhile, certain members of City Council, in tandem with City Engineer Sam Rodriguez and his staff, are actively working to destroy our oldest barrio while shamelessly pandering to the local Mexican-American community.
We know exactly who they are and will not forget.
