On April 20, The Texas Senate voted 18-11 to end faculty tenure at public universities for newly hired professors.
Sen. César Blanco was the only Democrat to vote for this bill.
All of the other 11 Senate Democrats voted against it.
Incredibly, he told the press, “I cannot and I will not defend the status quo to maintain the historic discriminatory barrier that tenure is within higher education for minorities.”
My guess is that Blanco did not speak to any university professors or administrators before casting his vote because he has absolutely no idea what he is talking about.
I mean zero.
The bill has been sent to the Texas House for consideration.
