Today the El Paso County Commissioners Court decided to delay the vote on whether to issue a certificate of obligation in the amount of $346 million to expand UMC hospital until the County Clerk can verify the 35,000 signatures submitted by the Libre Initiative on Friday.

Estefania Seyffert of CBS 4 was the first to publish a report on today’s decision, noting that the County is hiring ten temporary employees to assist in validating the signatures. The effort is expected to take several weeks.

The new of the petition was first revealed by Martin Paredes of El Paso News on Friday.

Early this morning KVIA published a concise report in advance of today’s decision by the Commissioner’s Court, and KTSM published a report around lunchtime that is incomprehensible.

Kudos to Seyffert for her clear and accurate report.
