El Paso Matters recently acquired records from University Medical Center showing that CEO Jacob Cintron is now paid a salary of $878,000, an increase of 7% over last year, plus a $178,327 bonus.

Cintron’s base salary when he was appointed in 2016 was $480,000.

We’re talking about a non-profit hospital with an operating budget of $1.4 billion that cares mostly for those on Medicaid or with little or no insurance.

But its CEO earns $1,056,327, which is more than all four County Commissioners and all eight City Council Representatives combined!

Not bad for a guy who began his UMC career as an assistant administrator.

Let’s not forget that this is the same CEO who tried to ram a $400 million CO through the County Commissioners Court under the radar but was thwarted by a citizen petition drive led by the Libre Initiative.

And now there is talk of building a new UMC Eastside campus at a cost of hundreds of millions, requiring a very large bond issue.

Lord have mercy on the taxpayers!
