Dear Friends,

As you know, 92-year-old Toñita Morales is the oldest resident of Duranguito and has lived there for decades. The City of El Paso wants to eject her from her home so they can demolish it for a multipurpose basketball arena, but she is fighting back fiercely.

At 5pm this evening Ms. Morales will be featured on KFOX14.

This past Saturday, she was recognized as a Border Hero by the Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center and was the subject of a beautiful film. You can watch the film on the Paso del Sur Facebook page.

This past April 29, she was featured in the Los Angeles Times.

PRO-ARENA INCUMBENTS HERNANDEZ, MORGAN AND RIVERA TO FACE THE VOTERS IN NOVEMBER

Three City Council reps who support uprooting Ms. Morales from her home and destroying her historic neighborhood along with 14 National-Register-eligible buildings are up for re-election:

*Cassandra Hernandez, who in spite of being raised by an immigrant mother is hell bent on destroying our City’s oldest immigrant neighborhood.

*Sam Morgan, who supported preserving Duranguito when he first ran for his seat and then changed in his mind and threw in his lot with the big developers. We will work every single day to defeat you, Sam!

*Henry Rivera, who is married to the new Democratic Party Chair and is united with her in his support for displacement and mass demolition.

Morgan and Rivera will face challengers who will end their political careers. As yet, there is no candidate who can challenge Hernandez, but we’re working on that.

Enjoy your evening!
