Three of the four Oligarchy candidates for City office–Isabel Salcido, Claudia Lizette Rodriguez and Bettina Olivares–chose not to sign the Code of Fair Campaign Practices. Although not legally required, most candidates sign this document and submit it to the City Clerk, who posts it online for all to view.
Item 4 of the Code is a promise to “not use campaign material of any sort that misrepresents, distorts, or otherwise falsifies the facts.”
Incumbents Isabel Salcido of District 5 and Claudia Lizette Rodriguez of District 6, for example, have recently sent out dishonest campaign mailers, which I just documented in a report for El Paso News.
No wonder they did not sign.
