Dear Friends,

I wish to thank Ho Baron for submitting such a thoughtful letter to the editor of the El Paso Times and for his very kind words for me and for so many of my allies.

My only beef is his criticism of Mayor Margo for being a Republican. Hundreds of thousands of El Pasoans dislike him because of his poor policy decisions and his failure to honor his fundamental campaign promise to “hold the line on taxes,” not because he is a Republican.

Let us remember that all six tax-and-spend, pro-arena reps on City Council are Democrats and that Dora Oaxaca, the Chair-Elect of the local Democratic Party and the wife of City Rep. Henry Rivera also supports the arena, displacement of the poor and mass demolition, unchecked deficit spending, and the private agenda of the big developers.

Meanwhile, the Chair-Elect of the local GOP Rick Seeberger and the Chair of the Libertarian Party Dave Marino actively oppose the arena, displacement of the poor and mass demolition, unchecked deficit spending, and the private agenda of the big developers. These two men have stood before City Council multiple times and made bold public statements against City policies, and so has Luis Hinojos, Chair of the El Paso Young Republicans.

And yes, there are many prominent local Democrats who are steadfast allies of the people as well, and my friends and I have supported many of them politically.

I have said it before and will say it again: In local politics, party affiliation means absolutely nothing.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Max
