I am pleased to report that today Fr. Rafael Garcia, Pastor of Sacred Heart Church, met with Pope Francis today in Rome!
Fr. Garcia and I arrived in Rome together on July 5 and he has been staying in the Vatican with the Jesuits. Today the Holy Father came to his community to visit an Argentinian Jesuit in the infirmary who was the Pope’s novice before his elevation to the papacy. All the Jesuits were invited to greet the Pope.
Fr. Garcia introduced himself to Pope Francis, telling him, “Soy Rafael Garcia y trabajo en El Paso, frontera con México.” The Pope, in reference to the plight of the migrants on the border, replied “¡Cuántas cosas no habrás visto!”
Fr. Garcia contacted me immediately, overjoyed.
I have attached a photo!
