Hardy Heck Moore and Associates, headquartered in Austin, has completed its first draft narrative for the proposed National Register Historic District for the Segundo Barrio. There is now a 60-day review period for the public to weigh in and provide comments and suggestions.
The 310-page document can be downloaded here. I can tell you that the research is truly impressive and that HHM did a spectacular job!
The figure for the number of “contributing” historic buildings and sites within the proposed district has been revised upward from 659 to 690, with 204 non-contributing buildings. Thus, 77% of the buildings are contributing, which is high above the minimum threshold required by law.
The County and HHM remain on schedule to submit the final nomination to the National Park Service by June 14, 2021, with the new historic district being established shortly thereafter.
