We feared that the City’s proposal to expand the Convention Center includes the construction of an Arena on the site of the Abraham Chavez Theatre. The planned acquisition and demolition of historic buildings within the Convention Center Master Plan area alarmed us.
But on Tuesday the City Manager reminded the public that a City Council resolution from 2012 calls for the preservation of the Abraham Chavez Theatre. She affirmed her commitment to “fixing” the historic building.
We are glad about this news.
