Yesterday we reported that Luisa Barrios of KTSM-9 News co-wrote a news release with Cassandra Hernandez announcing her run for Mayor that was the worst piece of journalism we have ever read:
KTSM passed off as news an extremely dishonest description of Cassandra’s accomplishments as City Rep that was written together with… Cassandra.
The News Editor sent us an apology and assured us that the mistake was very serious and that it will never happen again.
Last night Barrios posted an entirely different report–much shorter–that quotes Cassandra but also points out her “ethics violations, most notably the controversy around her taxpayer funded fuel card.”
We will continue to monitor our news media for violations of journalistic ethics, since no one else will.
