We just received the first mailer of District 1 candidate Alejandra Chavez, a former risk manager for Enron and now the darling of the big developers and their bankers and attorneys.

One side of her mailer reads: “I’m Alejandra Chavez, and I’m running to represent you in City Hall with a commitment to our community’s future. Together, we can build a safer, stronger, and more prosperous El Paso.”

Our guess is she lifted this from an 8th-grade social studies project and inserted her name. Can she possibly be more bland and generic?

The reverse side is no more interesting but is completely dishonest.

She claims she will “tackle property taxes,” but under her leadership our property tax would break the tackle, run past the defensive line, and cross into the end zone of insolvency.

In the same mailer she claims she will improve roads and infrastructure, enhance public safety, and support future development.

But how would she pay for any of that when her monied contributors want the City to issue more bonds for non-essential capital improvement projects?

Chavez is already on the record in favor of building an arena in Duranguito and constructing a deck plaza no matter what the cost.

Aren’t you tied of politicians telling you they will give you everything and it will cost you nothing?

Fortunately there is an excellent solution and her name is Dr. Monica Reyes. Please volunteer for her campaign for City District 1 and contribute what you can: www.reyeselpaso.com/
