With Leah Hanany and Jack Loveridge at the helm of the EPISD Board of Trustees, we knew this was coming.
It is not enough that the City voted for a $105 tax increase for FY 2027.
It is not enough that the Commissioners Court voted for a $41 County tax increase and a $10 UMC tax increase.
It is not enough that the EPCC Board of Trustees voted for a $16 tax increase.
Yesterday the EPISD Board voted 7-0 for a tax increase of $114 on the average-valued home. Whereas the average-valued home in the City of El Paso is $232,669, within EPISD the figure is $280,079.
Adding together the current tax increases from the five local taxing entities, the tax bill on the average-valued home will increase by roughly $300 for FY2027.
These increases will be felt by every property owner in El Paso but the people who will suffer the most will be the poor, whose landlords will increase their rents, in the Segundo Barrio, Chamizal, Central, and everywhere else.
