Our local Oligarchy consists of big developers and their bankers and attorneys. Every election cycle they contribute generously to their candidates with the aim of tightening their grip on our local governments.

Their ultimate objective is always the same: to bond large capital improvement projects so they can profit at taxpayer expense. Their candidates always claim to have “vision” and to be fiscally conservative but are nothing more than surrogates for their wealthy campaign contributors.

Fortunately, we have a global network of satellites and drones that can identify dishonest politicians who pretend to be our friends. Here are the candidates you should avoid like the plague:

RENARD JOHNSON, candidate for Mayor, will promise absolutely anything to get elected. He is backed by the Oligarchs, Veronica Escobar and Beto O’Rourke and has raised well over $500,000 from his wealthy friends. He promises to lower taxes and fix our streets but his true agenda is to spend more and increase our taxes.

ALEJANDRA “ENRON” CHAVEZ, candidate for City District 1, is essentially a miniature version of Renard Johnson. Their blockwalkers even place their doorhangers together. A former risk analyst from Enron, Chavez makes empty promises to the public while raking in big bucks from the Westside country club crowd.

JOSH “VENDIDO” ACEVEDO, candidate City District 2, pretends to be an enlightened progressive and reminds everyone that he holds a doctoral degree in education. However, he has accepted large contributions from the big developers, which can only mean he will vote reliably in support of their financial agenda.

DEANNA MALDONADO-ROCHA, candidate for City District 3, is funded by the Oligarchy and their allies even though her webpage makes her seem fiscally responsible and eminently qualified. She is neither.

CYNTHIA BOJAR-TREJO, candidate for City District 4, hopes to unseat Rep. Joe Molinar, one of the most fiscally conservative individuals ever to serve on City Council. She is funded by the country club crowd and cares only about winning, not about the plight of the taxpayers.

IVAN NINO, candidate for City District 5, is the legislative aide of the current office holder, Isabel Salcido, who repeatedly voted to increase our taxes and issue non-voter-approved debt and is a big supporter of taxpayer-funded deck plazas and arenas. Nino is just like her: a thirty-something climber who wants to play politician.

FABIOLA CAMPOS-LOPEZ, candidate for District 7, convinced the WestStar Bank crowd to get behind her campaign very late. We saw their contributions on her 8-day report, dated October 28.

ALAN SERNA, candidate for City District 7, took a check from Steve Ortega. Enough said.

JACKIE MICHELLE BUTLER, candidate for County Commissioner Precinct 1, changed her middle name to “Arroyo” just for this election. She is a tax-and-spend progressive who earns more than $100K working behind a desk and answering the phone for Commissioner Leon, whom she hopes to replace. Her platform calls for expanding County government, even as the County sinks into an abyss of debt.
