Commissioners approved the no-new-revenue rate of $0.451133 per $100 of taxable property value, or about 45.11 cents. That means that on average, El Pasoans will pay the same amount in County property tax as they did last year.

Chastened by the primary loss of Stout and Coronado, the Commissioners Court surrendered to the will of their enraged constituents rather than risk more political damage.

Nevertheless, Judge Samaniego whined: “So by not taking the voter approval rate … we have $46 million dollars less to do the things people have discussed.”

It remains to be seen what the City will do on Tuesday.
