Norma Chavez is a Democrat who is running for Texas Representative of District 77. She previously served seven consecutive terms in the Texas House, representing District 76, until January 2011.
Her Campaign Kick-Off & Fundraiser is scheduled for tomorrow, November 1, 5:30-7:30 PM at Mesa Street Grill, 3800 N. Mesa St and is open to the public.
We spoke to her on the phone about her platform and she emphasized that she will focus on the interests of taxpayers and embrace fiscally responsible policy positions, although we cannot yet find anything posted on a campaign webpage.
She will be formidable because she is backed by Eddie Holguin and has already racked up an impressive list of endorsements (see below).
Her Democratic primary opponents are Alexsandra Annello, who serves as City Representative of District 2 and has seven years of legislative experience, and Vince Perez, who lost his seat on the El Paso Commissioners Court to Iliana Holguin. They do not have active campaign webpages either.
We will report more on these candidates and on the Republican and Libertarian candidates when we have more information.
We do not yet know enough about this race to make an endorsement.
Election Day will be November 5, 2024.
