We were emailed a copy of a legal petition, filed with the County District Clerk May 22, 2024 at 1:43pm, aimed at removing Armando Rodriguez, President of the Canutillo ISD School Board, from office.

Rodriguez was elected in 2005 and has served on the Board for 19 years.

The petition (appended below) was filed by three individuals who pay taxes within Canutillo ISD: Christopher Stewart, Carol Cassady, and Anette Brigham.

It alleges that Rodriguez was arrested three times for driving while intoxicated: in 2013, 2015, and 2021. *CORRECTION: We have confirmed that the DWI in 2015 did not happen. The error on the part of the plaintiffs results from a misdated KVIA report of 9/30/13.

We found that the 2021 charge has not yet been fully adjudicated.

The petition cites Texas Local Government Code ยง 87.013(a)(3), which states that “an officer may be removed for intoxication on or off duty caused by drinking an alcoholic beverage.”

Our understanding is that it would be up to the District Attorney whether to proceed with any legal action against Rodriguez, such as removing him from office.

KVIA has already published a report.
