Gassandra Hernandez, who voted to increase our property tax six times, issue hundreds millions of dollars in non-voter-approved debt, fund every single wasteful boondoggle that came before City Council, and who was reprimanded for abusing her City gas card privileges and then lied about it to the media, has endorsed Renard Johnson for Mayor.
If we were Renard, we would rather have been endorsed by Caligula or Osama bin Laden!
Does he really think this is going to win him support?
The only reason Gassandra mustered 10.34% of the vote in her failed bid for Mayor is because tens of thousands of El Pasoans went to the polls to vote for President and Vice-President without a clue about who else was on the ballot.
As a result, when it came time to choose a Mayor, many voters skipped the first name on the ballot (Winters) and the second name (Johnson) and then clicked “Hernandez.” These are the kind of voters who cannot even name their City Representative, much less make an educated decision about whom to support for Mayor.
Our atomic Gassandra Clock indicates that Hernandez has only 60 days, 17 hours, and 27 minutes left in office, after which her political career will be over.
Our guess is the Oligarchs will reward her loyalty with a consulting job or some other gig that gets her a desk with her name on it and a six-figure salary.
Renard also received the endorsement of (ret.) US Army Command Sergeant Major Steven Winters, who came in fourth on Tuesday with 8.61% of the vote.
The good news is that the voters who go to the polls for the runoff election in December will be far better informed. Most will not believe Renard when he claims he will lower our property tax and will understand that he is a tool for the big developers and their bankers and attorneys, exactly like Dee Margo was.
They will support Brian Kennedy, who has a proven record of restraining taxation and trimming spending.
