Lesley Engle of KVIA reports that the FBI completed its investigation of City gas card use by Rep. Cassandra Hernandez, former Rep. Claudia Lizette Rodriguez, and possibly others.
Both politicians were reprimanded by the City Ethics Review Commission.
Incredibly, Hernandez is running for Mayor.
The local FBI spokesperson issued a statement: “The El Paso Field Office conducted a thorough investigation into the allegations and subsequently presented the comprehensive results and investigative findings to the United States Attorney Office, Western District of Texas for their careful review.”
El Pasoan Jaime Esparza is the US Attorney for the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas.
Now that the case is on his desk, the decision of whether to proceed with criminal prosecution lies with him.
One hopes he will uphold the rule of law.
