I want to share with you some of the latest election news.

KHLAYEL ENDORSES KENNEDY

Yesterday Freddy Khlayel, who dropped out of the District 1 race, endorsed Brian Kennedy. The two men had very similar campaign positions, and I am glad Khlayel is lending Kennedy his support.

SILVERSTEIN PRINTS NEW CAMPAIGN SIGNS

Two days ago I wrote to Analisa Silverstein to inform her that her campaign signs are illegal because they lack the legal notice required by Texas law. As a result, she has started printing new campaign signs in a hurry. (see attached) Of course, she never replied to my letter, in which I asked her how she intended to rectify the issue. As a homeowner and taxpayer in District 1, I felt entitled to ask her the question. If elected, I am guessing she would not respond to constituents she does not like or who disagree with her policies.

ISABEL SALCIDO CONTINUES TO DECEIVE

At the polls today, Salcido’s supporters are handing out cards (see attached) that perpetuate the same lies she has been telling since the start of her campaign: (1) that she “fought for no new taxes” even though she voted for three major property tax hikes and $389M in COs that helped make those hikes necessary, and (2) that she “fought to cap the city manager’s salary” even though she voted in May to extend his contract without a salary cap, only to vote for a $450,000 “cap” in August after pressure from her constituents.

RODRIGUEZ IS A “MAMA BEAR”

In her Facebook post this morning, Rodriguez calls herself a “Mama bear” who fights for her cubs “to keep your taxes low. No one else on council fights like I do to keep your taxes low.” This is an outright lie which she has told repeatedly for months. Rodriguez was inexplicably absent from the August 2020 vote to increase our property tax, and in August 2021 she voted to raise our property tax. This is not fighting to keep our taxes low. I wish she would tell the truth about her record.

RODRIGUEZ APPEARS ON FOX NEWS AND NEWSMAX

After several recent appearances on Fox News (e.g. herehere and here) in which she trashed our Mayor for his refusal to declare an immigration emergency, Rodriguez appeared on the alt-right Newsmax network two days ago. She used the opportunity not only to criticize our Mayor yet again, but also to advance her campaign for reelection to City Council. With all due respect for her social agenda, I am not sure that Newsmax and Fox News are the appropriate venues for criticizing her colleagues and advancing her campaign for reelection. I realize that the financial burden of the immigration issue in El Paso is relevant locally, but Fox News and Newsmax are focused on federal immigration policy as it relates to the Biden administration, which is far outside the purview of a City Council representative and makes one wonder why she is airing her views there.

RICH WRIGHT IS RUNNING TO WIN

I have seen Rich Wright campaign signs, large and small, all over District 8. His mailers and block-walking have been very effective in getting out his message. I recently reported that he was endorsed by Elvis. The word on the street is it that Jimi Hendrix and John Lennon are also on board!

Don’t forget to vote.
