Commissioner David Stout published a guest column in the El Paso Times defending the County’s tax increase and its authorization of $894 million in general obligation bonds and COs.

He begins: “El Paso County is poised to adopt a tax rate Monday, with a high possibility of adopting a rate that is lower than when I took office in January 2015.”

Bullshit.

He knows full well that the County will INCREASE its tax because of its refusal to compensate for the steep rise in property valuations by adopting the no-new-revenue tax rate.

So Stout promotes the classic deception that the tax “rate” may be lowered, straight from the Tommy Gonzalez playbook.

He then admits, very dishonestly, that “it’s possible or even likely that the amount you pay, even at a lower tax rate, is more than you did 10 years ago.”

Actually, David, you raised our tax just last year, along with your own salary–which you have more than doubled since assuming office–and you are raising our tax for FY 2025 as well, so please spare us the political double-speak.

You are a tax-and spend progressive politician who favors government expansion, non-essential capital improvement projects, and high taxation.

Why else would you add more than $40 million to the proposed cost of renovating the County Coliseum against the advice of your own BOAC?

Enough already.
