Yesterday the County Commissioners Court debated Commissioner David Stout’s proposal to place a $105 million Coliseum bond proposition on the May 3 ballot even though the same proposition was rejected by the voters last November 5.
Several members of the public spoke passionately in opposition to the proposal, arguing that it disrespects the voters, who rejected it less than 100 days ago.

After retiring into Executive Session, Stout made a motion to move forward with his proposal but could not get a second, so there will be no County bond election in May.
This is an important victory for the taxpayers, who are already overburdened by their property tax.
The County will likely try to place a Coliseum bond on the ballot for the next November election but for under $50 million, which would be enough to upgrade the Coliseum. Any additional amenities should be paid for by private investors.
