On January 30, 2023, the County Commissioners Court voted 4-1 under item 8 to issue certificates of obligation in the amount of $59 million for “essential public infrastructure projects.”

Only one week ago, the same Commissioners Court voted 4-1 under item 9B to issue another $54 million in certificates of obligation to pay for streets, water infrastructure, and HVAC systems.

In both instances, Commissioner Iliana Holguin voted “NAY” because she correctly believes that voters should have the right to decide on large bond issues at the ballot box.

Unfortunately “Vader” Samaniego and his three stormtroopers–Jackie Butler, David Stout, and Sergio Coronado–love to spend our money without our permission.

The four of them have transformed El Paso County into a kind of fiscal Death Star, whose planet-destroying superlaser is aimed at its own budget.
