The Mexican-American Cultural Center was supposed to cost $5,750,000 but ended up costing $16,500,000, nearly triple.

The Children’s Museum was supposed to cost $19,250,000 but ended up costing over $60,000,000, with the City paying two-thirds of the total, more than triple the original price tag.

The Ballpark was originally supposed to cost $50,000,000 but after City Hall and the Insights Museum were demolished and the City moved into five buildings that had to be separately renovated, the cost to the taxpayers ballooned to well over $150,000,000, more than triple.

The City promised the proposed 15,000-seat Arena would cost only $180,000,000 but then we learned it would actually cost over $500,000,000, nearly triple.

The City and County are telling us the proposed Debt Plaza over Interstate 10 will cost only $207,000,000 dollars when their own feasibility study indicates the “total project cost” will be $412,000,000. Of course, that means the cost will exceed $600,000,000.

All the bloviating from the developers and their bankers and attorneys and all their “progressive” cheerleaders will never convince us otherwise.

Triple the pork.

Triple the debt.
