Dear Media,
The Trost Society’s architectural walking tour of the Segundo Barrio, scheduled for Saturday at 9:00-11:00am, is sold out. About 80 will be attending, plus Trost Society staff and some media.
We will walk at a leisurely pace for approximately 1.5 miles, beginning inside Sacred Heart Church at 9:00am and ending inside San Ignacio at 408 Park Street around 11:00am. We will visit churches, theaters, saloons, tenements, schools and murals and discuss the rich architectural history of the barrio.
It just so happens that July 31 is the feast day of Saint Ignatius, the founder of the Jesuit Order, which established both Sacred Heart Church and San Ignacio. The folks at San Ignacio, our final destination, will be selling enchiladas, gorditas, tacos, and aguas frescas to celebrate, and all are welcome to have lunch there. Afterwards, we may drop by Bowie Bakery for pan dulce.
The Segundo Barrio will soon be designated as a National Register Historic District, with hundreds of buildings eligible for federal and state historic tax credits that may be applied toward restoration projects. Sacred Heart Church will be the first major building to be restored in the new district.
All proceeds from the tour will go to the fund for the restoration of Sacred Heart Church.
Although the event is full, media are welcome to attend.
Have a great day!
