Ted Houghton is the principal of Houghton Financial Partners, Chair of the El Paso Mobility Commission, and Vice-Chair of the Medical Center of the Americas. In previous years, he served as Chair of the Texas Transportation Commission, a Board member of the El Paso Water Public Service Board, and a Board member of the El Paso Electric Company.
We interviewed Mr. Houghton about taxation, debt issuances, and transportation and capital improvement projects.
He believes that our City and County need to invest more public funds to make our community a more attractive place to live, whereas we believe that our local governments should stop issuing debt and focus on lowering our property tax rate in order to make us more competitive.
Although we have fundamental disagreements, we had a vigorous and interesting conversation and found common ground on some key issues.
