Robert Moore of El Paso Matters published a report analyzing the impact of property tax increases on rental properties, where most low-income El Pasoans live.
As we all know, the El Paso City Council recently voted 6-2 to increase our City property tax by about $83 for the average El Paso home ($167,000), but that is only part of the story.
There are five taxing entities in El Paso County, and Moore investigates the differing tax burdens in our three local school districts.
His analysis is very interesting, and his primary conclusion comes as no surprise:
“The rising property tax bills on rental property hit low-income El Pasoans at a disproportionate rate.”
Politicians, please take note.
